Whether you use iRecruit, or another applicant tracking and electronic onboarding solution (ATS), the most efficient, and consistent way to utilize the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) program is to include it in your ATS. Doing so facilitates consistency, and will help maximize your results by making sure all (as many as possible) new hires complete the online paperwork to determine eligibility.
If you are using paper methods, or our 1-800 service to collect WOTC data, you should include at your new hire onboarding paperwork stage. If you do have an ATS with an electronic onboarding component, or a separate onboarding software, you can include a secure link to your WOTC online form.
- Include WOTC forms (8850 and 9061) as part of your onboarding process to make it easy for new hires. Give the new hires the “paperwork” along with their W-4 and I-9 and any other documents you use during onboarding.
- Give WOTC Forms to ALL new employees to avoid any potential discrimination issues. (Note WOTC is a voluntary program and new hires cannot be mandated to complete.)
- Monitor your ATS/Onboarding and your WOTC Dashboard to ensure as many new hires as possible are participating.
