With 2016 upon us, and heady with new year’s resolutions (running every day, anyone?) that I want to stick to, I thought I would put together a few resolutions just for recruiters. Whether you are an iRecruit customer or not, hopefully you’ll find this list helpful.
1. Edit Your Long-Form Employment Application
2016 applicants have shifted to over 50% mobile applications, and generationally, more than one-in-three American workers today are Millennials (adults ages 18 to 34 in 2015) . Your employment application needs to adapt to these changes. Make it easier to apply for a position with your company by asking for minimal information upfront on the initial application.
2. Prioritize Social Recruiting
The United States alone has 122+ Million LinkedIn users. If your company is not currently on LinkedIn, now is the perfect time to join and create the company page. Company pages should provide information about your company, including news updates, press releases, blog posts, and of course employment information and job listings. Company pages allow you to keep in touch with potential candidates and current employees easily. iRecruit can help you quickly distribute your available positions on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.
3. Recruit with a Marketing Mindset
With approximately 3.8 million jobs listed on Indeed (November 2015) now, more than ever, you have to work smart in order to stand out. This includes learning some Search Engine Optimization tips. To help potential candidates find your positions as they search using search engines like Indeed, Monster, CareerBuilder etc.
4. Enhance Your Corporate Presence
Employer branding has never been more important than it is today. Keeping in mind that unless referred by someone they know, the majority of your applicants are finding your advertised positions on external websites. This means that visiting your career portal may be the first exposure the candidate has to your organization. Your Career Portal should tell the candidate the story of your company, your Company Values & Culture, the benefits of working with you and how to keep in touch with you via social media outlets. We also recommend adding in images of your employees in their work environment(s), and About Us videos, or a Day in the Life of Employee and more.
5. Respond to Every Applicant
It should go without saying that you should respond to everyone who applies, after all no one likes to spend 30 minutes on an application, and then never hear a thing afterwards. We know that the life of a Recruiter is a busy one though, so iRecruit does automatically respond with a customized message immediately when someone submits an application. We also recommend sending a weekly or monthly Thanks, But No Thanks email to the applicants who do not move on in your hiring process.
6. Spring Clean your ATS
At least once a year, review our checklist to see if you need to make changes. This may include changing your password, checking your settings to see if anything needs to change, closing out any old job requisitions, removing any users who are no longer with your company and more.
7. Embrace Electronic Onboarding
iRecruit has made it easier than ever to onboard your new hires. With iConnect’s Electronic Onboarding, which includes electronic I-9s, W-4s, State Tax Forms, and almost every part of your new hire package. You can use iRecruit as you hire to send employment agreements, direct deposit forms, emergency contact forms, employee handbooks and more.
