Happy Friday! Take a look at this week’s must read articles for recruiters:
How to Avoid Groupthink When Hiring (Read @ HBR)
When it comes to hiring, democratic decisions lead to better outcomes. There is wisdom in crowds when it comes to spotting talent. When Google tracked the performance of recent hires against their interview ratings, the company found that averaging the ratings of a group of interviewers was by far a more accurate predictor of success than the rating of a single interviewer, even if that interviewer was an HR leader or one of the company’s founders.
Salary History Off-Limits Under New Illinois Equal Pay Law (Read @ Labor Employment Law Blog)
On July 31, 2019, Governor J.B. Pritzker signed a law prohibiting Illinois employers from asking job applicants or their previous employers about salary history. The impetus behind the new salary history amendment is an effort to close the gender wage gap. According to a news release from the governor’s office, women in Illinois earn 79% of what men earn.
Recruiting Recruiters (Read @ Medium)
My guidance to founders: Hire a strong recruiter earlier than you think you need one
While many people advise that founders hold off as long as possible before hiring an internal recruiter, or wait until the company is around 40–50 people, my guidance is to hire a strong recruiter earlier than you think you need one.
How to Attract and Retain Top Gen Z Talent (Read @ Entrepreneur)
here’s been a lot of talk in recent years about Millennials, but what about Generation Z? Gen Zers were born between 1995 and 2010, which means they’re either fairly new to the workforce (the oldest of the group being 24) or will be entering it in the near future. According to a joint study by management-consultants McKinsey and consumer-trend researchers Box 1824, Generation Z are digital natives, identity nomads, realistic, radically inclusive and want more dialogue and less confrontation.
Women in Trucking: How They’re Disrupting the Industry (Read @ Indeed)
A plentiful job market may sound like great news for everyone — but while low unemployment benefits job seekers, it can actually hurt industries facing worker shortages, such as trucking. These companies are now struggling to fill open positions and prepare for future growth.

At iRecruit we get many questions sent in by customers. We thought we would share some of the questions with you on our blog. iConnect is an add-on module for iRecruit Applicant Tracking Software that allows you to communicate with candidates and new hires. iConnect eliminates (or vastly reduces) the paper-heavy aspect of hiring.
Should We Retire the Term “Full-Time” Position? (Read @ Fistful of Talent)
As I survey the employee/employer relationship landscape, I really never see a great story. Oh, sure, there are good “anecdotes” here and there of some company (typically privately held, startup-mentality, uber-cool) doing something unique and interesting enough to get into INC and Forbes. These stories are the bloody chum consultants tweet, retweet, post and build models around (until the next unicorn sighting comes along and then all the past is forgotten).
Unhappy Employees Will Make New Candidates Head for the Hills (Read @ HR Daily Advisor)
If new candidates come into your workplace and see how unhappy your current staff is, they’ll decline your job offer in a heartbeat, finds new research from Hibob—a people management platform. Even in a tight labor market, a high salary is not enough as 69% of candidates will reconsider an offer if current employees do not seem happy in their roles.
Your Job Posting Requiring a Bachelor’s Degree is Discriminatory! (Read @ The Tim Sackett Project)
From the world of sports this week in 2019 – The NCAA (collegiate sports governing body) came out with rules for agents working with college athletes who are underclassman but trying to make a decision to test the NBA waters before graduation.
